- Civilization was originally created by Sid Meier (who co-founded
Microprose back in the 1980s)
- The Civilization series has become wildly popular. It has sold over 2.5
million copies world-wide since its introduction.
- Civilization has received the "Number one game of all time"
from Computer Gaming World magazine.
- Civilization led to the creation of Civilization II, Civilization
Multiplayer Gold (Multiplayer version of Civilization II), Civilization:
Call to Power, and Civilization III.
- Sid Meier has now gone out and created a new company called Firaxis.
The main product from Firaxis is another turn-based strategy game called
Alpha Centauri. Firaxis is currently working on Civilization III.
- Freeciv is an open source clone version of Civilization II.
- CTP is the third commercially boxed game available for Linux. The first
two were Quake, and Quake II.
- CTP was originally created by Activision, but ported to Linux by
Loki Software
- CTP for Linux shipped in early May 1999. "Brick & Morter"
stores such as CompUSA and Best Buy should have CTP for Linux in stock now.
- With the success of the CTP for Linux port, Loki Software is now working
on porting three other popular games: Myth II: Soulblighter, Railroad
Tycoon II, and Eric's Ultimate Solitaire. All three are expected to be
released in 1999.
