- You are cast in the role of civilization ruler. You are to control
your civilization from 4000BC to 3000AD, starting with only a lowly
band of settlers. As time progresses, your civilization's population
will grow as well. Science and techology advance, and you will quickly
be able to build any of over 65 different units (ranging from the lowly
warrior to more advanced units such as stealth bombers and sea engineers
(who build Underwater Cities.))
- During the course of your civilization, you can attempt to build any of
35 "Wonders of the World" ranging from the Sphinx (which decreases
the cost of military readiness) all the way to the Wormhole Sensor (which
allows you to recover alien DNA -- an important milestone towards one of the
win-game scenarios.)
- As with nations on Earth, civilizations in CTP must choose some form of
Government type. The well-known ones, such as Democracy, Communism, Facism,
and Republic are available. There are many others though, including
Theocracy (religion-based), Technocracy (technology/science-based), and the
very basic Anarchy (when you haven't chosen any other government type.)
- Military units consist of more than just the standard units that come to
mind when you think of standard strategy games. In CTP, there are also
Stealth units (such as the Lawyer, Cleric, Spy, and Sub-neural Ad) which can be
used to incite riots, stop production, or reduce happiness in other
civilizations.
- Along with everything else in the game (I told you it was
complex), you must control diplomacy with other civilizations,
happiness (in your civilization as a
whole, and also in each of your cities),
the production of food, pollution, crime,
science, diplomacy, etc. If you can master all of these issues in your
civilization, your populous will be so happy that they will build monuments to your glory!
